Having A Laugh

Did you know that laughter is the best medicine?

Yes, we’ve all heard it said, but now it’s official.

My friend recently broke a couple of toes.  Limping around the house, feeling sorry for himself, he switched on the TV.  Suddenly he was laughing his head off at a very funny show. He was laughing so much, that when the door bell rang, he jumped up and ran to answer it.  It was then he remembered he couldn’t run!

Was it magic that had made the pain disappear or was it because laughing had taken his mind off his problems?

It is now known that laughter stimulates the right side of the brain and releases chemicals that combat stress.  In other words, a good belly laugh gives us an instant high and helps us to forget our worries.

Depression is one of the biggest problems of modern life, but if we can laugh, we begin to feel better about things.

A light hearted outlook can help us through bad times, make good times joyous and mean that people are really nice to us and seek out our company.

If we can develop a humorous attitude, it will go on working for us in the long term.

Let us all try to encourage it in ourselves.

It’s a trick worth learning.
